It is important to consider not
just the installation space available, but also the
size and quantity of the equipment to go in your rackmount
cabinet. Outlined below are the standard sizes for our
rackmount equipment range and a 'U' conversion table
to help you decide how much equipment you can install
in your rackmount cabinet.
The usable cabinet height is calculated
in U’s. 1U = 44.45mm. Add 151mm to the figure
to obtain the overall floor to top of the cabinet height.
Example - 45U height cabinet will give 45 x 44.45 =
2000.25mm of space to place equipment and a total height
of the cabinet of 2000.25mm + 151mm = 2151.25mm. Castors
and screw jack feet add additional height of 100mm.
1U = 44.45mm (1.75")
- 47U = 2.08m of mounting space, actual height will
be approximately 2.24m
- 45U = 2m of mounting space, actual height will be
approximately 2.15m
- 42U = 1.86m of mounting space, actual height will
be approximately 2.12m
- 39U = 1.73m of mounting space, actual height will
be approximately 1.90m
- 27U = 1.20m of mounting space, actual height will
be approximately 1.40m
- 18U = 0.80m of mounting space, actual height will
be approximately 0.95m
All rackmount cabinets are supplied
with transport castors - do not load cabinet with these
castors. If you need castors for a loaded cabinet please
order seperately.
Cabinets of width 600mm and 700mm with
a depth of up to 1200mm will go through a standard 740mm
door opening. Cabinets of sizes 800mm x 800mm and larger
require special consideration of how they can be delivered
to the final siting position.

Cabinet Width
The standard width for rack-mountable
equipment is 19 inches (483mm). Standard cabinets come
in 3 widths to provide additional space for cable management.

Cabinet Depth
Servers and other IT equipment
vary in depth, most Servers will require at least a
900mm deep cabinet to include space for cable management.
Most Compaq Servers require a 1,000mm deep cabinet.
Rackmount Cabinet Weight
The weight of a standard 42U x 800mm
x 800mm with glass door, steel door and two side panels
is 105Kg. To calculate other heights add/subtract 2.5Kg
per U. Cabinet load rating - 400Kg evenly distributed.
